Mission & Vision

Mission
People’s Kitchen Detroit is dedicated to co-creating a safe, respectful and inclusive space where Detroiters can access affordable healthy local and bulk foods, learn and share empowering skills to plan and prepare healthy meals, holistically manage and prevent disease, and preserve local harvests while building community strength through food security, activism and a deeper connection to the Earth.

Vision
We believe that food is the center of a community. When the primary food a community has access to is genetically modified, pesticide-ridden, processed, and devoid of nutrients, the overall health of that community suffers. Alternatively, when a community has access to and knowledge about whole, real foods grown and processed in harmony with Nature and without the use of harmful chemicals, the community itself is fundamentally supported to be vibrant and whole.

With this ideal in mind, we will provide many different ways for people to engage in creating life-long sustainable changes within themselves, their families, communities, and the world as a whole.

It takes a Village. We are working with our Commons partners and other community members to organize a community childcare cooperative, which will make childcare available at all of our skill shares, cook shares, learning circles, and movie nights.
