People’s Kitchen Detroit is excited to host this Summer Herbalism Series with local herbalist and health educator, Triana Kazaleh Sirdenis. These skill shares are hands on, interactive, and intended mostly for teens and adults (though kids have sat in from time to time). All classes are $30 early/$40 late registration. Plant Preservation: Sunday, May 19th 4-6pm
Plant Preservation will focus on techniques for preserving plants after harvest. From drying, freezing, setting up a home apothecary, and basic medicine making techniques. We’ll also demonstrate how to make tinctures, salves, steams, and quick poultices. These skills are important to learn early in the season and can help strategically and ethically guide your plant explorations this Spring, Summer, and Fall. Ethical Wildcrafting: Sunday, June 16th 4-6pm
Ethical wildcrafting is harvesting plants from the wild in a responsible, ethical, and sustainable way. Learn more about these techniques, re-seeding, plant identification, and basic botany. This is a necessary skill for the learning and exploratory herbalist! Healing Garden (1745 W. Warren, Detroit, MI).
Summer Medicinal Plant Walk: Wednesday, July 10th: 5-7pm
Identify, touch, smell, and feel plants in their Summer abundance! This class will primarily focus in depth on a handful of plants, identification, ethical wildcrafting, medicinal uses, and preservation. Location TBA in Detroit, MI.
Herbal First Aid: Sunday, July 14th: 4-6pm
Mid summer is a great time to explore the plants around us. Many of these plants in our neighborhood lend themselves very well to basic first aid situations. Learn basic herbal first aid techniques, how to enhance your standard first aid kit, and summer plant identification. We will primarily focus on wounds, stings, bites, minor infections, nausea, and anxiety. Healing Garden (1745 W. Warren, Detroit, MI).
